.What do artists do. The child is the artist. The art room is the studio.
TeachingforArtisticBehavior.org defines TAB as a “nationally recognized choice-based art education approach to teaching art”. It is a program that was developed in Massachusetts College of Arts over thirty-five years ago. This concept allows student to experience art on a whole different level. In theory, students will be self-starters, they will be independent, and they will work cooperatively with their classmates in the art-making process. Students will work on art inspired by peers, by the materials that are available, and by their own life experiences. They will be given choice – some may choose an art project the teacher demonstrates, other may choose to work on a project because of a certain medium, or some may choose to experiment with new media! Students will work at their own pace. This way differentiation is occurring every day. Giving students choice will lead to more independence and encourages creativity and imagination. This program respects student ideas! They get to decide what is valuable and important to them in art.
